The bay is what makes this different

Everything east of the Gateway ends at water. That leaves the Redlands with two things no other part of South East Queensland has to plan around: a barge timetable, and salt in the air. Both change how a bike gets moved and both are worth saying out loud before a job is quoted.

The run from Wynnum around through Lota, Thorneside and Birkdale to Cleveland is short in kilometres and slow in practice. It is all suburban road with no motorway through the middle of it, which is exactly the stretch nobody wants to ride an unregistered bike along at forty minutes a go. It is also the most common job on this page.

South of Cleveland the Redlands turn semi-rural. Thornlands, Sheldon, Mount Cotton and the back of Redland Bay have acreage, sheds and driveways laid out for a ute rather than a van. Tell us what the access is like and we plan where we load from instead of guessing.

Two bikes fit in a van and there are two vans, so a pair out of the same garage is one booking. Everything is priced on the two addresses and the bike before it is booked, and if a barge is involved that goes in the price too.

Capacity

Two out of the same shed

Two bikes fit in a van, and there are two vans.

Each van carries two bikes chocked and strapped side by side, and with both out that is four. Around the bay a multi-bike job is usually a household rather than a business — two in one garage, both going to the same workshop or both leaving with a house.

4moving at once
Two motorcycles loaded side by side inside a lit, carpeted enclosed van, each on its own wheel chock

Two bikes and a house move

Bayside houses turn over and the shed goes with them. A road bike and a project in the same move travel together rather than on separate days.

Both due at the same workshop

One needs a service and one needs a roadworthy. They go in together and come back together, which is one trip each way instead of four.

A collection leaving the family

Deceased estates and downsizing. Often three or four bikes, usually none of them running, sometimes untouched for a decade. We quote the whole lot before anything moves.

A pair going across the water

If two bikes are headed for the same island it is worth putting them on one crossing. Tell us the island and the date and we will confirm what the barge allows and what it adds.

Why people book

Why bayside bookings come in

What people around the bay are actually trying to solve.

It lives near salt water

A bike that spends its life within sight of the bay collects more than a bike in a garage out west. Moving it inside a closed van rather than on an open trailer at least means it does not spend the trip in spray as well.

It is going to or coming off an island

North Stradbroke, Russell, Macleay, Lamb, Karragarra and Coochiemudlo are reached by vehicle barge from Cleveland or Redland Bay. The barge is the variable, not the bike — give us the island and the date and we will confirm whether we can book a crossing and what it adds to the price.

The workshop is not out here

A lot of bayside owners use a mechanic at Capalaba, Tingalpa or further into Brisbane. Unregistered or not running means the bike cannot get itself there, which is the loop we exist to break.

There is no motorway east of the Gateway

It is not far to Cleveland, it is just thirty sets of lights. A bike you have owned for a day is a bad place to find that out, and an unregistered one makes the point for you.

The driveway is acreage, not suburbia

Mount Cotton, Sheldon, Thornlands and the back of Redland Bay. Gravel, gates and a slope. Mention it when you book and we will work out where the van stops.

It is going onto a truck

The freight depots around Murarrie and Hemmant and the Port of Brisbane are close from here, so the first leg of a long move is a short one.

Where bayside bikes go

Most of these do not need you there. Tell us who is receiving it and we will arrange it with them.

Workshops at Capalaba and Tingalpa

The two clusters most bayside bikes end up at, plus the ones further into Brisbane. Straight to the door, and back again when the work is finished.

The barge, for an island job

Cleveland for North Stradbroke, Redland Bay for the southern bay islands. Timed around the crossing and quoted with the crossing included, so there is no surprise at the ramp.

Dealer and customer deliveries

Bikes out to buyers around the bay and stock moved between sites, booked for a date and delivered enclosed.

Acreage and shed addresses

Mount Cotton, Sheldon and the semi-rural edges. We tell you where the van can get to before the day, not once we are stuck on it.

Storage units and lock-ups

Bikes that live alongside a boat or in a storage unit between uses. In when you are done with it and out when you want it back.

The Port and the freight depots

Murarrie, Hemmant and the Port of Brisbane. The short first leg of a move that goes a long way past South East Queensland.

How far we run

  • All of Redland City, Capalaba to Redland Bay
  • The Brisbane bayside: Wynnum, Manly, Lota, Tingalpa, Wakerley
  • The bay islands, subject to the barge
  • West into Carindale, Cannon Hill, the southside and the city
  • South through Carbrook and Cornubia to Logan and Beenleigh
  • Further afield: Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and interstate on request
Regular runs

Bayside runs we do most weeks

Short in kilometres, long in traffic lights.

The Redlands→Brisbane workshops

Cleveland and Capalaba in to Tingalpa, Cannon Hill and the southside. The most common leg on this page and the one people most often assume they can just ride.

Wynnum and Manly→The Redlands

Around the bay through Lota, Thorneside and Birkdale. No motorway, thirty sets of lights and a sixty limit most of the way.

Cleveland→North Stradbroke Island

By vehicle barge from Toondah Harbour across to Dunwich. The crossing sets the timing, so island jobs are booked around it rather than around traffic.

Redland Bay→Russell, Macleay, Lamb and Karragarra

Out of Weinam Creek. Same idea, different water — the barge decides the day and the price includes it.

The bayside→The Port and the freight depots

Murarrie, Hemmant and the Port of Brisbane, for bikes heading a long way past South East Queensland.

On the road

Inside the van, out of the weather

Straight off the jobs. Front wheel chocked, straps on, doors shut.

Questions

Common questions

Can you get a bike to North Stradbroke or the bay islands?

The bike is the easy part; the barge is the variable. Vehicle barges run to Dunwich from Cleveland and to Russell, Macleay, Lamb and Karragarra from Redland Bay. Tell us the island and the date and we will confirm whether we can book a crossing and exactly what it adds to the price.

Do you cover Wynnum and Manly as well as the Redlands?

Yes. The bayside strip from Hemmant around to Thorneside is on the same run as the Redlands, so we treat it as one area rather than two.

What if it is unregistered, or has not run in years?

Both are normal. Most of the bikes we pick up around the bay are one or the other and plenty are neither. Tell us which when you ask for a price so we bring what is needed to load it.

Will the bike be exposed to salt or weather on the trip?

No. It travels inside a closed van rather than on an open trailer, so it is out of the spray and the rain for the whole run. That is worth more out here than almost anywhere else we work.

Can you handle an acreage driveway at Mount Cotton or Sheldon?

Usually. Gravel, a slope or a gate is fine as long as we know before we arrive. If the van cannot safely reach the shed we load from wherever it can and walk the bike the rest of the way.

Can you move more than one bike?

Two per van and two vans, so four at once. Around here that is usually a household clearing a shed or a pair going to the same mechanic.

Is the bike insured for the trip, barge included?

Insured with NTI. Up to $150,000 accidental damage cover per load in transit, including loading and unloading. $30 million public liability. If a storage facility or a marina wants a copy of that before they let the van in, ask and we will send it.

What does it cost from the Redlands?

The two addresses, the state of the bike and the access at each end. An island job also carries whatever the barge charges, and that is quoted with the rest rather than added afterwards. Send the details and you will get a price for the actual run.

Do you collect from a deceased estate or a house sale?

Yes, and it is common work out here. Several bikes, none running, often not moved in years. We quote the lot before anything happens and we can deal with the agent or the executor if you are not local.

Do I need to be there?

No — give us a contact at each end. Island jobs are the exception, because someone usually needs to meet us on the other side.

Do you go beyond the Redlands?

Yes. Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba, plus interstate on request.

What about a breakdown?

Call. Breakdown recovery is answered 24/7, including out past Mount Cotton and along the bayside roads where a bike can sit a long time before anybody stops.

Get a price for your bayside run

Send the two suburbs and what the bike is. If an island is involved, say which one and when, and the barge goes in the quote with everything else.
